Commissioned by Nankai Shochu, this illustrated poster series was created to promote their artisanal distilled spirit while celebrating the beauty of Amami Island, Japan. The central theme, “Visit Amami Island,” was designed to evoke a strong sense of place and atmosphere, positioning the spirit as deeply connected to its origin.
Nankai Shochu is an artisanal Japanese spirit brand founded by Paul and Mai Nakayama after visiting Mai’s hometown of Amami Island and experiencing the local shochu tradition firsthand. The illustrations aim to capture the island’s natural beauty, warmth, and distinctive character, reinforcing the narrative behind the brand.
Through a vintage travel poster aesthetic, the series blends destination-inspired imagery with product storytelling, creating visually striking compositions that celebrate both the landscape of Amami and the spirit itself.
