ABOUT

This project is an exploration of Roald Dahl’s short story, Fantastic Mr Fox. It is a study of the themes and characters within the book and how this can be translated into a fresh reimagining of the books artwork and cover designs.
I have used this project to explore the genre of Children’s book illustration in a more in-depth context. I have examined the history of the story and its author, considering the context it is situated in and other portrayals of foxes throughout pop culture. This research then fed into the development of my own work.
There was a lot of experimentation with materials in this project and the hands-on approach has contributed to maintain the sense of warmth I wanted to achieve. Which is essential for a story such as this. When creating the imagery, I took inspiration from both Quentin Blake's original illustrations and Wes Anderson’s contemporary retelling of the story.
