Blue Therapy began as a breakout success on YouTube. Unfiltered, emotional and instantly compelling, it developed a loyal following and carved out a unique space in the relationship reality genre. When Channel 4 picked it up for a TV commission, it marked the start of something bigger. But the real turning point came when Netflix joined the project.
Once Netflix became involved, it was clear that the original digital company, while creatively strong, didn’t have the infrastructure to support a production of that scale. Nest was brought in to take on full production responsibility and ensure the series could grow without losing what made it special in the first place.
From the moment we joined the project, our focus was on protecting the creative voice while building the operational framework around it. That meant taking full ownership of production infrastructure including budgeting, contracting, legals, H+S, insurance, compliance and post-production delivery. We created systems that allowed the original team to continue doing what they do best while we handled everything behind the scenes.
Essentially, it was our job to ensure everything ran smoothly in the background – giving Netflix and the production company a security blanket.
Equity and inclusion were a central part of how we built the production. The team was over fifty percent diverse across departments, from senior editorial to production and post. This wasn’t a target set from the network. It was a principle. The content demanded authenticity, and we made sure the people making it reflected that same integrity.
We also introduced bespoke duty of care processes that were sensitive to the emotional and cultural complexity of the format. Welfare and safeguarding were planned from day one, with support in place for contributors, crew and creative leadership throughout. We managed all onboarding, crew resourcing and scheduling across a fast-moving and ambitious delivery timeline.
The result was a smooth, respectful and collaborative production. Nothing went wrong. The energy was calm. The team were focused and supported. We are now in post-production, shaping a series that holds on to its original voice while meeting the expectations of a global platform.
