ABOUT
The Armed Forces Muslim Association (AFMA) was set up in 2009, as a support network for Muslim military personnel.
Increasingly, the armed forces have been manipulated by religious and far right extremists, to promote their own objectives and narrative. AFMA wanted to counteract this by showing that it is possible for Muslims to practice their faith whilst serving in the British Armed Forces.
The site created was a celebration of the active Muslim presence in the Armed Forces. It shone a light on the many committed Muslim servicemen and women, including Asim Hafiz, the first Imam and Muslim Chaplain to the British Armed Forces, who are proud to carry out their military duties in full without compromising their faith.
The site also served as a way to encourage recruitment from the Muslim community into the British Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Royal Marines.
