ABOUT
Over the last 6 months I’ve been working with the team at Redhills Durham Miners Hall in refreshing their brand following their recent restoration.
The Grade II listed building, built in 1915, was once home to the Pitman’s Parliament and remains the Durham Miners’ Association headquarters.
The Pitman’s Parliament was an important symbol of working-class empowerment and was crucial in shaping the region’s social and political landscape. Redhills was recently included in Historic England’s series of 100 ‘Irreplaceable’ sites.Over the last few years Redhills Miners Hall has been transformed into an impressive heritage centre, in a multi-million pound restoration project. It also aims to help rejuvenate the local cultural landscape, by being a venue for live music, cultural events, exhibitions, conferences and weddings.
Redhills were looking for a more consistent, coherent brand for the launch after their multi-million pound restoration. They wanted to keep their existing logo but introduce a set of stricter brand guidelines, as there were many iterations and colours of the logos which made it confusing for staff and suppliers. A few minor tweaks were made and it was then reduced to two options with a new strapline added. Their cultural icon graphics were also retained from their previous rebrand.
A bold type system and strong colour palette was suggested, to highlight their heritage and compliment the logos, with black and red being the main brand colours. The new brand is now live and will be rolled out for marketing collateral over the next few months, as Redhills starts life as a new heritage centre.
