ABOUT
The brief was based on Akhenaten opera by Philip Glass. We had to pitch our idea and visuals at the beginning of term 3 of the MA Character Animation course at CSM University of the Arts London. 9 pitches were picked by a jury of people from the Opera and professionals from the industry. The idea that I had was fortunately selected and I've been provided by two assistances to make a three to five minutes animation in a 2 months period.
The project is a watercolour on glass animation about Akhnaten, pharaoh of the Eighteenth dynasty of Egypt and Nefertiti, his wife, mesmerised by the sun god, following the sun through the desert. Oblivious to the fact that they are being watched by Horus, Eye of gods. Sun god destroys the old city and when they arrive to the river, he decides to build the new city as an indication of the new era. Horus, flies back to inform old gods of the events he witnessed. Filled with anger, old gods, rush to the new city, crash it down and shatter the sun. The explosion of the sun though, set old gods as well as the city on fire. Horus, who planed it all and been present the whole time, dives into fire feeding from the sun and old gods, to rise up as a phoenix.
