ABOUT

ARTWORK FOR FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

The Australian National University Giving Day 2017 was organised to fund two projects: an Indigenous volume of the Australian Dictionary of Biography (ADB) and refugee access and support programs across the Australian National University.

BRIEFING / CONCEPT

Create an artwork that ties both projects together whilst subtly distinguishing them from one another - taking care to not show favouritism toward either campaign. This artwork must function as a print poster design (for paste ups around the uni) for the two seperate campaigns whilst being able to capture the overall Giving Day message. Finished piece is to be formatted to work as a page banner, video showreel image, social media icons and various print collateral including invitations and postcards. Piece must house 3 seperate titles:
Overall Giving Day message: "Let Every Story Be Heard"
The Australian Dictionary of Biography: "Stories Waiting to be Told"
Refugee Support Program: "Stories waiting to unfold

EXECUTION / RESULTS

Inspired by the campaign messages and using recognisable aspects of nature (in particular Canberra's vibrant sunsets), I felt that budding desert flowers shows the potential of young students and the stories that they already have and can create through the Refugee Support Program. The red and yellow tailed black cockatoos (Wylah) have such a majestic presence and a prehistoric and powerful call. Flying out of a dense forest with a Waratah in full bloom below shows all the knowledge and beauty that can be acknowledged through the ADB initiative. I created a A3 triptych poster design so that all 3 images could come together yet be separated apart - subtly distinguished through content as well as slight variations in colour palette.
