ABOUT
This series of Tolbachik Volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula was captured over the vast lava fields left by its latest eruption. Our plan for the day was to ascend Tolbachik, but after an hour, heavy snow and near-zero visibility forced us to turn back. It became the story of how we didn’t summit Tolbachik. However, this photo wouldn’t exist if we had. Once we descended, the weather quickly improved, and just a few hundred meters lower, the sun was shining. We enjoyed a perfect hiking day among Tolbachik’s numerous side craters and expansive lava fields. In such a place you feel absolutely free: no roads, only directions, and every direction is yours to explore.
