ABOUT

This series of Laguna Colorada was taken when we stopped by to have dinner on the second day of our trip to Bolivian Altiplano, from Salar de Uyuni toward Chilean and Argentinian borders. The lake, together with a number of others located high and deep in the dry Andean plateau was colored in a variety of different tones thanks to volcanic activity of the land and to small crustaceans living in its waters. The surrounding mountains were turning purple under the harsh mountain sun giving the whole view an exaggerated, almost unnatural look.Apart from the minor creatures the lake was inhabited by flamingos – the only ones able to survive in its highly mineralized salted waters. And standing there on the shore you could sense with your skin the remoteness of this reserved land where you can come but cannot stay.
