ABOUT
This series of the Dead forest was captured during a hike near Tolbachik volcano in Kamchatka. The recent eruption of Tolbachik took place a few years prior to our visit, having reshaped the landscape with lava flows and volcanic bombs and devastated the surrounding taiga with fire and ash. The northern forest, though fragile and slow-growing, has begun its resilient recovery, reclaiming the land it once lost.Kamchatka has a short breathtaking flaming autumn in September before the whole peninsula is blanketed with snow for nearly eight months; the ideal time to explore the remote areas – literally the most of the region – and enjoy the beauty without the nuisance of mosquitoes.By the time we arrived autumn was in its full right, fully transformed this rugged terrain into a spectacle of fiery colors.
