‘Weight’ is an on-going project about struggling to deal with mental illness, the ups and downs, the possibility of death and the feeling of absence. I’ve tried to visually capture the thoughts and feelings in my head through landscape as well as highlight the people within closest proximity to me who are affected by my struggles. It’s important that I’ve include them as I consider these people an extension of myself. This idea stems from my own personal struggles with mental illness, with the will and desire to grow and change. The brief I was given was to create a series of images that use a particular process or method of making, in this instance, I shot all the photographs on 120mm film using a Mamiya RB67 and created C-type prints in the colour darkroom of most of the images within the series.
