The series ‘Greenham common’ is based on the public parkland itself. The common is known for its use with RAF and US Army Air Force during II World War, as well as the Cold War. In addition, the airfield became highly known for its Women’s Peace protest outside its gates to stop nuclear missiles from being stored at this base.

Greenham common was brought to my attention while doing a previous project based on Tyneham Village and after
reading John Kippin’s “Cold War Pastoral” book, it inspired me to visit this location. I wanted to see what British
history had taken place and whether there were any markers or details left behind, of the events taken place.

I thought this could be a fascinating subject to look into as I had previously studied a political landscape and the theme seemed appealing to continue, especially within British history, but a different period and different location. As well as exploring further my relationship with the landscape and
landscape photography.
