ABOUT
Clash of the Comics (formerly The Wrestling) is a critically-acclaimed, cult-favourite, high-octane mashup of comedy and wrestling. Would you like to see Phil Wang SPOILER Ed Gamble? Joe Marler SPOILER a flying James Acaster? Rosie Jones perform a viscous SPOILER? All this and more awaits you ... in Clash of the Comics.
The project involved creating custom animated portraits for all the comics, wrestlers, and some of the (potentially mythical) backstage crew; as well as a commemorative poster that was sold as merch at the (sold-out) performance. The portraits were also projected on the big screen at the Apollo on the night, and are currently being used in the streamed recording.
Each illustration was an opportunity to give the performers a series of dramatic, empowering portraits: with wrestlers and comics alike given powerful expressions, domineering stares, and (shown only in the last frame of all animations) secret superpowers.
