ABOUT

There is beauty all around us. It's our duty to uncover that mystery. When we talk about 'inspiration', the typical stereotype thought goes to nature, or a formidable, hovering snow-capped mountain or the delicate indoors of St.Peter’s Basilica, sparkling vibrant gold and blue. Such matters harness the power to take our breath away because their proclamation as beautiful appears both natural, and proper. But the things we see all day never excites us because we don't consider them wonderful or something extraordinary. But beauty, far from being confined to the extraordinary, can be found in the most unexpected of places, in the most unexpected forms. Beauty is all around us, and if we've got any interest in appreciating it, we require a mindset of open receptivity. Our scope for beauty is decreased to the grand and remarkable. The perfect landscape, “perfect architecture" or the "perfect" face. Everything that has fallen into the list of "perfect" is beautiful only.
It is not necessary to always take inspiration from the things that are already attractive. The real creativity is to make ordinary into something extraordinary. Wire poles are something that is generally overlooked and ignored. Streets full of cluttered wires and big transformers are everywhere. But no one has ever acknowledged them as a form of inspiration. Beauty is not always to be found in the obvious or expected places. Beauty is not content to be so narrowly defined.  Moreover, it cannot actually be found in what we see - but in how we choose or learn to see. In other words, beauty does not so much exist within our subjects, but in how fully we can see and feel them. And only then, can we - as artists - turn our attention to how we can interpret those feelings on our paper or canvas. "Art" exists everywhere - all the time - all around us. But it is not something "out there" that has to be un-earthed - discovered - understood. It is here - within - inside all of us. So art is not in what we see - but in how we choose to see.
INTRODUCTION
True artistry can often be found in the mundane elements around us as well as those that are perceived as being extraordinary. The things that we overlook often have the biggest roles in our lives. My work comprises of such an object which we look at almost every day of our lives but the knowledge of it makes us ignore the fact that they exist. A utility is a column or post used to support overhead power lines and various other public utilities, such as electrical cable, fiber optic cable, and related equipment such as transformers and street lights.
My work includes the use of utility poles and electricity poles that are placed in almost every street and they provide for us the electricity that we use and abuse daily. The light that we obtain from these poles fulfills our requirements constantly. Light is life and communication is the lifeline of human life. We cannot imagine a life without these two basic elements. By working on ordinary things like utility poles, it will somehow draw attention to such objects which are mostly neglected and everyone will appreciate their quiet unassuming beauty. These poles look amazing and strange at the same time. If we see closely the twisted wires running off to buildings from below the transformers creates a strange kind of pattern.
Wire poles are something that is looked upon every day by everyone so it becomes more relatable to work on something that every man can relate to along with having seen in such abundance but overlooked, it can become a great way to make a perception that they are very important in our lives.
Looking at them our mind wonders of to such a place where our imagination knows no bounds. What these wires and the poles look to people might be different from every individual meaning the wires and poles and the wire pole altogether have many different interpretations and many different ideas of what it is. Some look at it as a wire pole but to some, it might look like something out of the ordinary. Looking at objects like these enhances our imagination to look at other objects who have significant importance in our life but we overlook them, looking at the simpler things in life.
Thesis Idea
What I want to portray through my work is the significance of wire poles in our lives, in our streets, what impact they have and how such a big object as that is overlooked as there are many of them, everywhere in different cities even a street might have two of these mighty things and the wire that so beautifully binds together and are wrapped in each other add beauty to the street they are placed in. Having lived in Rawalpindi all my life I always watched the wires of these poles often travel along with me where ever I went. I have always wondered the structure of these wires and the poles with the bars in between would look like from the inside. What was inside those giant poles that were traveling upwards standing in such a straight position, what was in those wires that were traveling alongside me when I traveled they traveled with me, I always thought something was running towards me at the same speed as the speed of my car, when will they burst out open and show me what is inside running. Looking at the wire poles from such a perspective has always intrigued me as to what they actually are. I incorporated the wire poles with my work to show how they enhanced my imagination to such an extent that now when I think about what I imagined it seems surreal to even think about the thoughts I had when I looked at the wire poles.
Often at times, many other wires are also attached to these poles which cause a further cluster of wires which also creates a beautifully entangled scene. It becomes a web in which things get captured. Kites are their biggest prey, often at times one would find kites and the wire that they are flying from getting caught in the web of the wire, and gets difficult to pick them out of it but kids being fearless, still do so. Many other times living things such as kittens and birds also get stuck in these wires or accidentally touch the transformer that is attached to these poles causing them to be electrocuted.
When we look at these mini skyscrapers we imagine all sorts of things, the way the bars are fixed in between the poles look like a staircase leading up to the sky along the wires that are hanging seem like an invisible dress. Often at a time when we are traveling, we look at the wires hanging from the poles attached to one other, when we look at the attached, they look like a wave going up and down. That is the most fascinating thing about such an abstract object that we can imagine it to be anything especially when they are placed everywhere in abundance.
Another eye-catching factor about wire poles is that they are a sign of progression. Whenever we see a wire pole we think of progression. Be it at a place where there is nothing but trees and grass, a wire pole standing steady there shows there has been developed in that area or that area is developing. Alongside that the men who are working on the poles also create an interesting sight, it has been seen many times when people are working on the electricity poles, other people in the street gather around to observe them working and stay for any help showing a glimpse of brotherhood.
Not being a part of nature but still standing tall, these wire poles do not look like they are not part of the world around them as they fit in well as the birds do.
