ABOUT

The initial idea behind the concept of this brief was to take existing propaganda posters, manipulating them to “reverse” the message that they were trying to put across. Through development, my concept changed slightly. I decided to focus on using a single element from one particular poster. The poster that I used was a Nazi poster that depicted hands of Nazi soldiers doing the salute that they are well known for. This salute is a gesture in which the right arm is inclined upwards, with the hand open and palm down. I aimed to use these hands in an ironic way to promote opposing ideas to what the original hand gesture represented. I went on to create 5 collages from these Nazi hands, doing positive/opposing gestures. These collages then became a set of risk graph prints that represented unity and positivity.
