ABOUT
RSC was a brief to redesign 5 of William Shakespeare‘s book covers to appeal to 16-24 year olds. I began by using my personal opinion of Shakespeare‘s plays and the parts that would interest me the most. Begining with Romeo and Juliet, as I was most familiar with this play, I found that the main events included; love, sex, violence and death. I wanted to use these components, that were exciting and “juicy“ and communicate them in a way that would interest this target audience. I decided to play around with emojis and bitmojis and how they could be utilised to tell a story, with a modern and youthful spin on each Shakespeare play. After a little development from emojis to bitmojis, my final book covers were quite simple but playful. I believe that the use of bitmojis was successful to create an image that would catch the eye of the target audience as most people 16-24 that I know have and used their own bitmojis on a daily basis.
