ABOUT
Search for New is the annual final year publication for the Graphic Design course at UWE, It is a publication that expresses the views and ethos of the course and aims to launch us into the design world. As one of the 8 selected designers from the course, I took on a lead design role with one other student. I learnt about how to work in a group and delegate tasks and saw a book for distribution go from the initial discussions about subject, through to the fund raiser events, through to researching printers and finally receiving the run of 2500 copies of the final designs.
Inspred by Guy Debords marxist writing “Society of the Spectacle”, we set out as a group, creating content generation exercises and workshops to find the subject of our book. Much like Debord's writings we decided to critique the lies and manipulating language that advertising tells its customers to grasp their attention, a subject that many designers have been the tools for. During the middle and last stages of the book design we had to organise fundraisers in the form of club events, a quiz night, and an exhibition in order to achieve our financial goal needed for printing 2500 copies and throwing a launch party. Along with co designing the book I created some of the promotion work for the events including the launch party.
