ABOUT

Concept

Our Fire Family was created as an intimate, human-centered portrait of South Metro Fire Rescue. As director, I wanted to move beyond traditional recruitment messaging and focus on the emotional realities of the people who serve—what drives them, what challenges them, and how they support one another as a community. The concept centered on authenticity, highlighting the deep sense of purpose and family that defines the department.

Execution

Mile High Films approached production with a documentary mindset, capturing real conversations, live training environments, and day-in-the-life moments across multiple stations. Our team filmed in active firehouses, training towers, and community settings, balancing cinematic lighting with the raw immediacy of emergency-service work. Careful interview direction allowed firefighters and leadership to share candid stories with clarity and vulnerability. We shaped the visual language around trust and respect—ensuring the department’s culture came through with honesty.

Results

The film became a cornerstone of South Metro Fire Rescue’s recruitment and public-outreach efforts, helping audiences understand the human side of the profession. It resonated strongly within Colorado’s fire-service community and contributed to greater visibility for the department’s values and mission. Our Fire Family went on to win a Heartland Emmy, underscoring Mile High Films’ commitment to impactful, community-driven storytelling.
