Whilst at Sebastian Conran Associates we created a range of iconic restaurants for Terence Conran's Bluebird restaurant.

The restaurant is located in the Kings Rd on the original site of the Bluebird garage where Donald Campbell developed the famous land speed record cars. Before the advent of the smoking ban, Conran’s restaurants were renowned for the bespoke ashtrays they commissioned.

Two different designs inspired by the rich heritage of the cars were produced, one for the restaurant and one for the club. The ashtrays proved very popular and customers began taking them home as souvenirs. Although the restaurant was happy for their brand to extend into people’s homes, they had to reorder much earlier than expected. In the end they put them on sale in the restaurant and Conran Shops to profit from their popularity.
