ABOUT

This project was all about finding a current progressing issue and shifting the experience to raise awareness of the cause. I chose the topic of climate migration, not many people believe that it's a current issue, due to climate change people are having to migrate to different areas or even countries often in the year. However, it is legally not considered asylum seeking, politicians think it's an illegitimate excuse to migrate. There are many countries who will be underwater in the coming years and no one is acting upon it.

Visually I researched the most affective way in which I can send a clear message on climate migration, leading to being inspired by political propaganda. I then made a short story of a boy migrating to another area and then being rejected by country borders, showing the plight of those who have to migrate all the time due to climate change. Raising awareness of the fact that they don't have a home anymore or land to go back to. Children losing their childhood with only their memories left to take with them.

I created the novel in the form of a fold out to foreshadow that you might think the issue is small but when you open it the issue gets bigger. The illustration style is very sketchy and imperfect to reflect the rough life these people are living, with the colour scheme reflecting how it's a black and white issue that is not difficult to understand and there's glimmers of hope in these people that are looking for better living conditions.

This resulted in raising more awareness of the issue to my classmates and educating people of the issue since most of the people that I have asked didn't know climate migration existed.
