(2022).

The first of my "Monsters" series.

The Hazmourne are clumsy creatures known to inhabit desolate rocky areas. While they are known to be hostile to outsiders, their inherent clumsiness somewhat diminishes the threat they pose. The greatest asset they have however, is their ability to generate fog from the unusual electronic backpacks they wear. They use this sulphur smelling fog as a literal smokescreen, which gives them the advantage of obscuring themselves from their perceived enemies. The Hazmourne are built for close quarters combat hence the blades they have for arms. It has also been said that they have the ability to administer electric shocks at close range, though this has yet to be confirmed. If you are in the vicinity of a Hazmourne, you will likely hear it before you see it, as the Hazmourne prefer to wander in the fog they generate. Perhaps due to the size of their elongated legs, the Hazmourne possess a number of wooden crutches in order to help them walk. The appearance of the Hazmourne is very often punctuated with the sounds of wooden poles clanking and echoing in the fog. A shotgun blast to the electronic backpack is guaranteed to render the Hazmourne dead, though it is rare for any Hazmourne to expose their back to their enemies, and it is more than likely they will see you before you see them.
