About me
I am applying for the position of Editorial Assistant, which was advertised online. I am excited to develop my editorial career in digital publishing and believe this role would offer a fantastic opportunity for me to use a variety of skills that I have developed since graduating from Kingston University with a degree in English Literature with Creative Writing in 2011. I am hardworking and reliable, with experience of meeting targets within set deadlines.
I am currently working as a Junior Production Editor at The Bone & Joint Journal. Within this role I am responsible for managing, proofreading and copyediting a wide range of printed and electronic publications, checking for style, consistency and ease of understanding. I am also responsible for preparing and proofreading articles/content across the Bone & Joint website, maintaining regular social media content alerts for all three Bone & Joint publications and liaising with editors and authors throughout the publication process,
Prior to my current employment I worked within a similar publishing role at The University of Law Guildford and interned as a Digital Content Writer at This Is Our Town, a digital media and marketing company. Within this role I was responsible for writing my own articles/online content covering diverse topics on a daily basis. Published work included experience pieces such as theatre and restaurant reviews, lifestyle and sports articles including weekend guides and match reports, and local news features. I developed a professional, fluid writing style that allows me produce eye-catching and persuasive content. I also gained extensive experience of proofreading and editing large bodies of content in preparation for publication, so I am confident I will offer a high standard of editorial support to your company. Other responsibilities included updating websites, carrying out research independently or as part of a team and driving digital/social media to promote local businesses and events.
I believe the combination of the skills which I developed at university and those acquired throughout my employment have given me a well-rounded set of skills which would be well suited to both your company and the services you offer.
