ABOUT
Public Furniture for Izmir Coast Line Project, Turkey
designed in 2012, realized in the City in 2018
Our group was working on Alaybey- Karşıyaka- Mavisehir- Sasali line; we were a big group including advisors, engineers, architects, lighting designer, landscape designer, and me as the product designer. We developed these designs together with Evren Basbug (eb studio) and his team.
For my part, we examined the coast line and behaviours of people; feelings and perceptions- ‘when’, ‘who’ enjoys doing ‘what’ at specific points:
Walking, working, reading, playing, socializing, doing sports, making fires, resting, meditating, biking, fishing, feeding birds, flying kites, eating sunflower seeds, stone skimming, watching the sunset, running to catch the ferry, skating and many more activities were supported by design including: Piers with concepts and functions, new invented elements as kite holders, slaloms for skaters to add some fun to the long path, perchs for people and birds, open air fireplace to sit around, working parks, walking barefoot on stones for relaxing, placing better stones for skimming, sitting on the rocks but with a wood touch, a boat bench for everyone to enjoy the waves, making music while running, installations to play with, functional floor graphics within the context, and many more.
Chaise- Lounge Bench:
The bench has versions as: single chaise-longue, double chaise-longue and a ground version that serves as a backrest when you sit on the grass which on the other side can be used as a table. It was part of the ‘working park’ proposal. The Chaise-longue Bench is one of the many, more than 50, ideas/ graphics/ designs proposed for the project.
