ABOUT

After six months of dedicated effort, I'm thrilled to see the fruition of a project that has been close to my heart. Last year, I embarked on a journey to create a film centred around a pivotal period in Bulgarian history – the aftermath of the April Uprising.
The April Uprising, which erupted on April 20 (May 2, New Style) 1876, marked a significant chapter in our National Revolution. It was a time of turmoil and tragedy as irregular Turkish forces brutally suppressed the uprising, committing atrocities against innocent civilians. These horrifying events reverberated across Europe, sparking outrage and condemnation, earning the grim moniker "Bulgarian Horrors."
Determined to retell these events vividly and innovatively, we decided to film in significant locations, such as monuments and statues commemorating great historical figures who contributed their voices to the international response. By doing so, we aimed to familiarize the public with the atrocities of the Bulgarian Horrors in a manner that is both engaging and thought-provoking.
Driven by a passion to retell this crucial piece of history and showcase its global impact, I took on the roles of director, scriptwriter, and lead producer for the film. To ensure historical accuracy, I immersed myself in extensive research, delving deep into archives and connecting with Bulgarians scattered across Europe.
One of the most challenging yet rewarding aspects of the project was coordinating filming across eight countries – the UK, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, the Czech Republic, and Russia. It was a logistical feat, requiring meticulous planning and coordination, but the diverse locations added richness and authenticity to the film's narrative.
In post-production, I immersed myself in the intricacies of video editing, I poured countless hours into post-production, meticulously crafting each frame to evoke the emotions and essence of the April Uprising. Using Adobe Premiere Pro, I seamlessly weaved together footage, sound, music, and commentary, while Adobe Photoshop enhanced the visual storytelling through stunning photography. Through precise editing techniques and sound design, I brought the historical narrative to life, engaging audiences on both an emotional and intellectual level.
Throughout the project, I embraced a multidisciplinary approach, drawing upon my expertise in graphic design to create compelling visual elements that complemented the film's narrative. Whether it was designing promotional materials or crafting immersive digital environments, my graphic design skills played a crucial role in shaping the overall aesthetic and impact of the film. I honed my skills as a storyteller and filmmaker, learning to balance historical accuracy with artistic expression. But beyond personal growth, it has been immensely gratifying to witness the impact of our film, shedding light on a pivotal moment in history and sparking conversations about its relevance today.
In conclusion, this journey of creating a film on the April Uprising has been an extraordinary experience, blending historical research, creative expression, and international collaboration. As the film reaches audiences around the world, it serves as a testament to the power of storytelling to illuminate the past and inspire meaningful dialogue in the present.
