M&C Saatchi Australia was founded 25 years ago by Tom Dery and Tom McFarlane in room 458 at the Regent Hotel in Sydney. This was just weeks after the fledgling M&C Saatchi London agency was appointed, globally, by British Airways.
At M&C Saatchi we build long term brand platforms. Brand platforms that are built with the customer at the heart, that inspire iconic ideas and act as a guiding light for organisations from the inside out. We believe it’s our superpower and why many of the country’s biggest brands, including Woolworths, CommBank, Optus and Lexus, choose to partner with us.
Our business has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. We believe nothing is impossible. It’s a philosophy that we were founded on and it continues to guide us to this day.
M&C Saatchi was founded on one single principle: Brutal Simplicity of Thought.
It is born from a deep dislike for vagueness and waffle. A preference to get to the point. A modern form of manners in a world short of time. It works on the premise that it’s easier to complicate than simplify. Simple messages enter the brain quicker and stay longer, so we believe Brutal Simplicity of Thought is a necessity in an age of cluttered communication environments.
Brutal Simplicity of Thought sits at the heart of our creative briefing process and has been used to create some of our most famous brand platforms. It involves unrivalled rigour to get to a focused, concise, and – above all – actionable core idea against the business challenge.
Brutally simple thinking has made us Australia’s largest independent agency network. And has seen us win over 30 Agency of the Year awards since we were founded, and be consistently ranked in the top 30 most innovative companies in Australia and New Zealand by the AFR for the past six years with several wins – including Most Innovative Media and Marketing Company for 2019.
