ABOUT

Set in a dystopian future, where the world has been turned upside down and everyone is watched, Welcome Home Friends follows two survivors on a dangerous journey to The North, attempting to get out of their home thats now run like a police state.

Inspiration when writing the story came from a number of different sources.
Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” was a prime example of how I wanted to approach the overarching story. I wanted to focus more on the journey and world the characters were in, than their destination. Movies and games like “Soylent Green” and “Bioshock” gave inspiration for plot twists, and other podcasts like “We’re Alive” gave an insight on use of sound.

One major challenge faced when producing the podcast happened days before recording, in which the stories ending needed to be changed to accommodate for one of the voice actors needing to be replaced.

Dr Edward Delta was originally both the creator of the Delta Chip, and was written to be behind the nation falling apart. However, due to the actor dropping out of the role and a new actress expressing her interest, I decided to rewrite the ending.

The new ending was written so the characters would think Dr Delta was behind everything, but it was in-fact his wife (Isabel Delta). This new ending allowed for better dialogue between the 3 characters during the plot twist, and also made a more satisfying conclusion to the story.

Overall, I was extremely happy with the 4 episode series I had created. From a simple idea on paper to a complex combination of sound effects, voice recordings and music that came out exactly as how I visioned it to be. I also decided to go a step further and create a website, where I uploaded each episode, along with some extra information about the characters, and the world of ‘Welcome Home Friends’

Welcome Home Friends!
