ABOUT

The Mid-Autumn Festival aka Mooncake Festival has a beautiful love story, but today I will tell you about the other side of the festival where Hades opens its doors and the spirits of the underworld "come up to play".

Chinese Opera plays run for a full month as a form of 'entertainment' with the first few rows of chairs 'reserved for them'.

Offerings are made to these spirits and when I was little, I used to help my mother's mother to plant little flags with symbols to make a path guide for the spirits to take the food offerings.

We are mindful to NEVER step or mess with these offerings as the consequences of the spirit world can be serious. I still observe this until today although I do not practice these offerings, I do my own space cleansing to clear the chi.

This piece is a reminiscence of a beautiful but notoriously haunted pool famous for its water spirit in my mother's hometown. It took me longer than expected to finish this but I finally did. While I'm not a fan of the underworld offerings, I'm definitely all in for the mooncakes :)
