ABOUT
I went for nearly 2 weeks without touching any of my art tools as things went back to normal and I had to adjust to the busy family schedule again. This personal project is a result of a pent up desire to create something. Initially started as one of my regular female sketches, I added a digital element to this piece as it progressed. What I had initially in mind, turned out totally different and this, in a way, gave birth to several more ideas in this concept that I am excited to be sharing over the coming weeks.
"Amaterasu", which means Sun Goddess in Japanese, is an inspiration of the Irezumi tattoo off one of my mentor's arms, my fascination with the design (hoping that one day I will be able to get myself an Irezumi half sleeve) and my Asian heritage. Although I am not Japanese, I find myself gravitating towards Asian cultural elements to feature in my pieces.
I will do another Malaysian one in the coming weeks. Maybe this time, I will include the Taosim elements that I grew up with.
Update as at 5 September: This project is being selected as one of the exhibiting pieces for "The Spirit of Resilience" Art Exhibition from Sept 4 - Nov 4, 2020, by “The Healing Power of ART & ARTISTS”, which is an initiative of Manhattan Arts International, based in NYC, NY
