ABOUT
I edited this trailer to promote at special showing of my debut feature film 'Row' at 'Act One' Cinema in London. Working collaboratively with the cinema, I was required to create a new bespoke trailer. Although it would be shown on the big screen, originally intended for 'Mark Kermode Live in 3D' at the BFI cinema, the brief called for a duration of around 30 seconds so that it could also reach a wider social media audience.
Having directed and edited the feature and previous Row trailers, I wanted to develop a new concept for this version. The idea was to take a section of monologue from one of the film’s characters and build a sense of intrigue around it, combining dramatic imagery with quotes from reviews. The challenge was to make the trailer attention-grabbing while communicating several layers of typographical information: Row, distributor Kaleidoscope and Act One all needed clear branding, alongside award laurels, reviews and a strong call to action.
I also created a new misty opening shot by adding atmospheric mist in Adobe Creative Suite, and rebuilt the Row end sting, originally created for a previous trailer, to integrate seamlessly with a new Act One end board.
The result is a punchy, dramatic trailer that stays true to the spirit of Row while conveying a significant amount of information with clarity.
'Row' is now currently available to watch on DVD and on many streaming platforms including Amazon Prime and Apple TV.
