ABOUT
Having good maths teachers has a major impact on pupil attainment, particularly for disadvantaged pupils. It is critical that primary schools can recruit and retain teachers with good maths teaching skills. But there are not enough expert math teachers and shortages can’t be plugged by conventional means alone. Department for Education figures show targets for recruiting maths teachers have not been met for several years and 45 per cent of schools have some maths taught by non-specialist teachers.
Adapt has created a disruptive technology format innovation called Adaptive-Media which uses a new form of Emotion AI to adapt video tutorials to people in real time based upon human factors such as attention, positivity and learning engagement. It is powered by a unique emotion analysis algorithm that works safely and securely in the user’s browser without sending images to a server for analysis. It is fully GDPR compliant and is not to be confused with facial recognition.
Ms Rose, Adaptive Media Maths Tutor is a new method for screen-based learning. Ms Rose is played by an actress and teacher called Joanna Adeyinka-Burford. It is the first ever video tutorial format where answers can be inputted and assessed directly in the video enabling pupils to follow learning pathways that best suits their individual pace. Human factors are assessed directly, using our Emotion AI technology, enabling the video-based tutor to assess attention and signs of maths anxiety – all within the maths video itself! At the end of the lesson, the parent or teacher gets a fully anonymised report. The prototype has successfully been tested in a UK primary school. A full curriculum based upon a growth mindset is under development. Ms Rose is a social impact innovation that will support schools and make expert online adaptive maths video tuition available for micro-payments.
