About me

I am a recent film journalism graduate with an intense passion for films and expressing my opinions to the world. I currently work on a voluntary basis for Muser Media as a film reviewer and maintain my own blog. I use my blog to make a small profit through advertising. I also worked for a week at my local newspaper to gain experience of the operations of a newsroom. Through my dissertation I studied theories on the future of journalism, interviewing people involved in the field including the editor of Empire magazine. I have good computer skills, having experience of both PCs and Macs. I'm a bright, personable individual who is always looking for new ways to expand his skill set.

Skills

My main skill is my writing ability which I try to practice as much as possible, always open to exploring new styles to keep my work fresh. I run my own blog, mostly reviewing films released at the cinema, comics DVD's, Blu-rays and TV shows (http://mattslittlefilmblog.blogspot.co.uk). I have excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office programs and their Mac equivalents, being proficient with both PCs and Macs. knowing how to use both PCs and Macs. Through the web journalism part of my university course I’ve learned a lot about video editing and podcasting. I am capable of using a variety of video and audio editing software including: Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, Adobe Premier and Adobe Audition. My various jobs have required me to be very sociable and welcoming with costumers and clients.

Sector Experience

I currently volunteer for two media websites; writing film reviews for Movie Muser and comic book related articles for Vada Magazine., While working for my local newspaper (Medway News) after A-levels I gained an understanding of the working environment involved with a newspaper company and how a story is turned from an idea into an article. I also a months work experience with Spotliet media while at university; filming and editing video reviews using my webcam and iMovie., For a project in the final year of university I filmed footage of cancer patients and workers to create a promotional campaign for The Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust; creating 4 videos of varying length examining different aspects of the charity's campaigns and overall goals. In addition to learning a great deal about using Adobe Premier I gained knowledge about the operations of the charity and working in that kind of environment.
