About me
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am excited to apply for the position of Social Media Editor as advertised on Creativepool. Below, I have detailed my relevant experience.
As the social media lead for TheSchoolBus website, an online resource for school leaders in England, I was responsible for creating a successful social media strategy which led to an increase in brand awareness and web traffic. I was able to use my knowledge of different social platforms to create and publish compelling copy via social media software, Hootsuite. In addition, I held editorial meetings where social media content ideas were discussed and shared, and then ensure they tie-in with the key goals of the company. I would thus be able to use this experience to shape brands' voice via social copy and create interesting editorial themes to support their social media campaigns.
Some of the social media tools I have worked with include Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, YouTube, Blogger, Wordpress, apart from many other established and emerging platforms. I have an inherent understanding of what makes content 'sharable'. For instance, I adopted a strategy where I ensured every tweet on Twitter had an informative link, image or infographic to spark interest and maximise interaction.
I also played a key role in monitoring online interaction. For instance, when there was a negative reaction to one of the articles on the company's education blog, I made the decision to address this by posting an article addressing the comments, per the company's social media policy. I have also hosted Twitter chats around a trending education hashtag (#uksbmchat) and monitored the discussion in an efficient and timely manner. I would thus be able to engage with subscribers, moderate user comments and also be able to flag inappropriate content and work towards its resolution if required.
I have a strong knowledge of various digital marketing channels and how they work together with social media to strengthen brand awareness and exposure. At Google India, I worked as an online advertising executive where I edited ads in compliance with Google's editorial policy, and also supported hundreds of advertisers with their ad targeting, keywords and SEO. At TheSchoolBus, I took the initiative to propose, create and manage an education blog to complement the main website, showcase expertise and drive traffic to the site.
I believe my experience in social media analysis will help me excel in this role. At TheSchoolBus, I compiled weekly reports on website statistics, keywords, social media performance and other key traffic drivers via tracking tools like Twitonomy and Google Analytics. I would be able to utilise skills to identify key insights and report on social media engagement, and referrals.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Warm regards,
Maryann E. Thomas
