About me

Dear Sir/Madam

Over the last twelve months, I have completed an MA in Journalism at Brunel University in London. It was an intense course, but at the same time, it was very enjoyable as valuable and core journalistic skills that anyone who wants to succeed in the industry must have. The key skill of news-writing, the essential media law among the vital skills that I have learnt. The key value of a news story is to give the reader something that they do not know already, hence when it comes to news-writing, you must attract the reader's attention in the first sentence to ensure they carry on reading the article. Thus, news-writing skills are something I can bring to your organisation.

As part of the course, we had to interview lots of people for stories that would go towards our assignments. Interviewing people is a task I relish, and during the MA I interviewed lots of people, from the MP of Uxbridge to the leader of Hillingdon Council, to a lecturer within the University. It is always intriguing to hear what an interviewee has to say and what they say can really add a lot of depth and weight to a news story or feature that you are writing. Furthermore, during the course we had to produce a magazine to coincide with a business themed event that was happening on campus.

The magazine was produced from scratch, and the group had to source, interview, write and edit our own stories. It was initially a daunting experience starting out from nothing and having to come up with a complete product in its entirety, but we succeeded in this aim and the finished magazine was a very professional looking publication. This whole production was a joy to be a part of and further highlighted my desire and passion for journalism and publishing. I have completed work experience at a magazine company in London, where I also contributed to feature ideas and penned some features myself, as well as carrying out some necessary admin work. Thus I have a range of skills that means I can make a substantial contribution to your organisation

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my application and cover letter. I look forward to hearing a response from you soon.

I would be more than happy to relocate to London if I was to be successful in this application

Please find my CV enclosed.

Yours Sincerely

Martin Richmond
