ABOUT
The sacrifice made in World War II by the young men of Bomber Command (65,000 died) had never been recognised. I was tasked with not only raising awareness for the role that they had played during WWII, but I also had to raise £4.9M in just 12 months so that a memorial could be built in Green Park, London.
For this campaign to succeed in educating people about the role that Bomber Command had played and in raising donations, I had to create a multi-tiered strategy that appealed to different
demographics, through different channels.
Different microsites were created that fed into the main
website. Direct mail was used to elicit a
response from the more senior members of the general public, while press advertising then appealed to everyone.
The whole campaign was launched with a 60 second film that
appeared on Breakfast TV.
Social media also played a huge part in this campaign, and by contacting Stephen Fry directly and asking him to Tweet about our cause, I was able to generate nearly 500,000 hits to the main website. This was then supported with Facebook pages.
