In August 2014 I decided to experience a Portuguese bullfight as part of a photographic essay. I took a number of photographs inside and outside the arena, some of which are shown in this project. By the end of the first half of the spectacle I'd seen enough!
(It differs from the Spanish style – in Portugal Cavaleiros are the stars, each dressed in traditional 18th century costumes fighting the bull from horseback, while Bandarilheiros help in the arena, holding the gold/pink cape to distract or position the bull. In addition, Forcados, a group of eight men challenge the bull directly with the front man provoking the bull into a charge).
