ABOUT

This is my final ISTD submission base on the expedition involving Captain Scott and his men as they attempted to reach the South Pole, and the brave way in which they met their death on the return journey home.

The story is told over three books in the same format as the artist notebooks which Scott used to document each day of their arduous journey, using the selected journal entries contrasted against mordernday scientific detail. Typography and structure is manipulated as a main tool to create drama and reflect Scotts emotions even though the journal was written in a 'stiff upper lip' Victorian manner.

Throughout the books the image of the Moon plays a role as suggestion that the Pole was the last place on Earth left to explore, the next great feat for mankind was going to be the Moon. Also it plays with the fact that Scotts expedition took place during the summer when the days lasted for 24hrs, and a full Moon could not be seen until after their deaths in March 1912.
