About me
Dear team at Buffalozoo,
As a recent graduate passionate about creating visuals and with a wide range of skills I hereby would like to apply for your position as Graduate/Junior Designer. (the two examples of my best work can be found here: )
Being done with my studies, I am excited to start my professional career at an inspiring agency, where I can put all my skills to use, which allows personal input and where I will be challenged to create incredible designs while keep developing myself.
Ever since I was introduced to Photoshop and basic HTML while still in primary school, creating visuals has been my preferred leisure activity. This together with my great love for film and its making of, caused me to leave Holland behind to study TV and film production in Manchester. This course offered all-round knowledge and experience in all on-set departments. But I was eager to specialise in post-production after having taught myself to use editing, grading and visual effects software. I therefore moved to London to study editing and post-production.
With the knowledge of and experience with new techniques used in post-production came the desire to be capable of producing high-end visual effects to realise more creative ideas. This is why I moved to Canterbury where I learned to use professional software such as Maya and Nuke, from whose company I won the Excellence in Compositing award. Thanks to these courses I have build up a significant portfolio, as I now have a wide variety of practical skills, which I can use together to realise nearly every creative idea. But I have also learned the importance of staying organised to ensure a smooth process, and of working together to achieve even higher goals.
This eagerness to keep learning and developing myself might show, that I love to take on challenges to get new inspiration and increase my creativity, and to expand my possibilities this way. But the strong hierarchy and departmentalisation in visual effects houses does not allow for much personal input and creativity. On top of this I was drawn to the challenge of the analytical processing of information on the history and philosophy of film and art, which the course Film Studies offered. Apart from looking into the meaning of visuals this course allowed me to research my particular interest in branding and marketing, as I chose to write my dissertation on the use of brand identities in films and series to set-up the personality of a character. And as an additional challenge I chose to spend nine months of this course living in Paris, to improve my French.
My travels allowed me to meet new friends and build solid relationships with people from all over the world. I was able to put this love to engage with people, learn from others and work as a team, to use as a Liaison Officer at the 2012 London Olympics. Located at the information desk of the International Broadcast Centre in the Olympic Park, which housed all the Olympic Broadcast Services' clients - about 20.000 national and international broadcasters -, I was the first person they would come to with any kind of questions and problems. The job therefore demanded me to build trusting relationships with them and stay organised and calm under the pressure of live broadcasts, to solve their problems in a fast and professional manner.
I am a visual person and not perfect at writing letters, but I would hereby like to ask you to consider me for this vacancy. Please have a look at my portfolio at as it will show my technical skills, and my CV for a summary of my other experiences.
I believe I fit your job description of Graduate/Junior Designer perfectly, as I have the skills and thoroughly enjoy both the creative and technical side of the position, which I would love to prove to you in person.
Yours faithfully,
Marjolein Verheij
