ABOUT
The commercial portrays an imaginary Boston where everyone is brighter and happier—a version of the city that is laughable to anyone that knows it. Playing off the city’s infamously rough reputation, the commercial flips commonly held Boston tropes and stereotypes to create a version of the city that would never, ever happen.
In this Boston nobody fights over parking spots, and die-hard Red Sox fans welcome Yankees fans with open arms. Mobsters worry more about recycling than about hiding bodies, and Boston tough guy and actor Lenny Clarke doesn’t start a bar fight but instead gives someone tickets to the ballet. Even former NBA superstar and Boston icon Kevin Garnett—known as the king of talking trash—doesn’t talk trash. Instead, he releases a heartfelt book: Don’t Talk Trash—Spread Love.
We made Boston brighter to get the word out that Sam Adams Boston Lager now tastes brighter.
