Marcus Johnson 3D Modeler

ABOUT

For this project, I designed and modelled a robot concept based on a vision of the future of the construction industry. I aimed to take inspiration from real world robotics and combine it with more far-fetched science fiction ideas to make the robot believable as a near-future machine, but also visually interesting, characterful and fun!
I used recognisable visual features from current day machinery to create the impression of practical, grounded functionality, whilst anthropomorphic elements like the robot's limbs and the 'face' of the frontal sensor array were used to embed a sense of autonomy and a kind of personality to the partially humanoid machine.

The digital model was created in Rhino 5 and rendered in Keyshot. I later used 3ds Max to rig and animate the robot in a series of compositions to create a mock advertisement as if it were a futuristic product for the construction industry.
The CAD model was also modified to be suitable for 3D printing as a miniature plastic kit.
