What is a portrait?

A painting, a drawing or a photograph showing a subject on pose, usually a person, recognisable for his/her personal traits…

But what if the main traits - usually the facial ones - are not visible? Can this image still be defined a portrait?

Well, in my opinion - using as example this picture I have taken of a beautiful lady sitting on the stairs of her own house - I can say that a portrait doesn't necessary has to show a face; sometime other elements, like gestures, personal objects or a specific place are enough to let recognise the subject. Maybe not to everybody, but surely this lady and her close friends can say that this picture is portraying her inner feelings of that precise moment… hence it is a proper portrait.
