ABOUT
84% of all streets in São Paulo that honor people in their names refer to men.
On January 25, the city's anniversary, instead of celebrating, Estadão - one of the biggest newspapers in Brazil - decided to expose this gender disparity.
We've created a website in which people could vote and nominate women who deserve to be honored in São Paulo streets names. Then we compiled all those suggested names into a special edition of the newspaper. On March 8, International Women's Day, we handed it to the politicians responsible for naming streets.
- more then 6.000.000 votes
- A special newspaper edition with over 300 women names and their accomplishment delivered at the City Council
- 3 bills presented to the City Council by the councilmembers Adriana Ramalho and Quito Formiga proposing women names for public places in São Paulo.
Those women names were suggested in our special newspaper edition.
