ABOUT

Adamastor Backpackers — Evergreen Hospitality Storytelling

For Adamastor Backpackers in Muizenberg, Cape Town, I developed a short-form cinematic film divided in less-than-a-minute chapters designed to work beyond the lifespan of a traditional social media post.

The objective was to translate the personality of the place into an evergreen visual story : a piece of content that could live across social media, Google Maps and the property’s own digital channels while giving future guests an immediate sense of what it feels like to stay there.

Rather than creating a conventional hotel walkthrough, I approached the project as a miniature film, based on the real story and values of Adamastor backpackers & Mui Stays property management.

Inspired by playful, character-driven cinematic storytelling, the film combines carefully composed frames, architectural details, subjective camera movements and an omniscient narrator to progressively introduce the house and its atmosphere. The short duration required every shot to carry information while still leaving space for humour, rhythm and visual personality.

A key part of the strategy was guest experience storytelling. The property is not presented simply as a collection of rooms and amenities, but as a place inhabited by people. Guests and members of the Adamastor community naturally became part of the visual narrative, helping communicate the social, warm and spontaneous character of the backpackers without turning the film into traditional advertising.

The project also reflects my approach to lightweight filmmaking: creating polished, intentional imagery without requiring a large production footprint.

Shot primarily with my Vivo Pro and a compact mobile setup, I worked with available light, existing interiors and real-life situations, using composition, camera movement, sequencing, color grading, sound and narration as the main storytelling tools. The film was shot horizontally to preserve a more cinematic visual language, while being conceived from the beginning to remain effective as short-form digital content.

The result is a 55-second hospitality film combining filmmaking, art direction and content strategy — designed not simply to capture a property, but to give it a voice, a rhythm and a memorable point of view.
