ABOUT

Concept:

The ModCon – short for Modular Container – is an easily transportable and diversely functional walk-in storage container with the unique ability to expand infinitely to allow for increased storage and collapse into a compact form to allow for portability. This first-of-its-kind product incorporates elements of a shipping container, walk-in closet, storage garage, and plastic tote to offer a comprehensive solution for professionals who own an extensive range of equipment and struggle to maintain a high level of organization and accessibility.

The ModCon was invented by Steve Dowell, who was inspired by his time serving in the U.S. Army to develop a storage solution that would allow military personnel to transport their equipment with ease in an organized manner to save time on locating specific tools or uniforms under a tight time crunch. Although this constituted his original inspiration for his invention, The ModCon serves as a fantastic solution for professionals in a wide array of industries, including construction workers, emergency disaster response teams, event planners, and artists on tour.

Execution:

The ModCon’s ingenuity lies primarily in its malleability and reinforced design. It affords users the convenience of stowing their belongings in an orderly manner within a series of interconnecting compartments that can seamlessly extend the container's size to the desired length that works best for their individual needs. All compartments are interlocked internally to prevent equipment from moving around in transit and feature detachable floor and ceiling panels that allow the compartments to expand or decrease in size. These panels are stored on the sides of the containers when not in use, so they are kept out of the way. Internally, it is comprised of secure bins that effectively immobilize contents during transit, and it boasts the flexibility to expand into an open configuration that can be walked through. This unique attribute enables the user to enter the container through a detachable door, offering an additional distinct, accessible dimension.

Conversely, it can also effortlessly collapse into a 3ft wide and 6ft tall closed configuration that allows for the convenience of either rolling the storage container on wheels for single-person transport or a two-person carry for unusually heavy loads, leveraging comfort grip handles. In addition, its stackable design ensures streamlined transportation in vehicles, aircraft, ships, intermodal cars, or even by serving as a standalone shipping container. Upon reaching the designated destination, The ModCon seamlessly unfolds, transforming into an instantly deployable walk-in shelter and storage container that does not require reorganization and optimizes equipment location, as all tools are organized precisely as they were prior to departure.
