ABOUT

From Beggar To Butterfly is a fiction book by Peter Jaggs. It is a collection of short stories about the dark side of Pattaya, once a small fishing village and now the world capital of sex tourism.

I was contacted by the Russian translator of the book, Eugene Gorny, who asked if I could make an appealing cover for the translated edition. I accepted. Eugene lives in Thailand and is a prolific photographer. He sent me some potentially usable photos and we discussed a few different opportunities. I picked a photo of a neon go-go bar sign complete with a female silhouette and the flag of Thailand, which I found to perfectly represent the contents of the book (I read the book to get an idea).

I used Affinity Suite and Paint Tool SAI to create the final image. I altered the colour balance, applied some filters, edited and repainted parts of the image. I then picked some free typefaces that would suit the neon sign aesthetic and used them to write the book title and author's name. While doing so, I made sure the cover complied with the standards of the publishing website we used, Ridero. I sent WIPs to Eugene to update him on progress.

The book is now available to purchase at a variety of online bookstores.
