I created this cover illustration for Psychologie Magazine, a Dutch publication focused on psychology, emotional wellbeing and human behaviour.
The issue explored themes surrounding wisdom, self-perception, beauty standards, and emotional maturity. The art directors wanted the cover to feel reflective and feminine while carrying strong visual presence on shelves.
My approach was to create a figure that felt grounded and evolving. Organic floral forms grow through the body, symbolising inner growth, lived experience, and the layered nature of wisdom itself. Rather than illustrating wisdom literally, I wanted the image to feel emotionally open-ended and intuitive.
Colour played an important role in the piece. Warm oranges and reds were balanced against cooler lilacs and greens to create contrast while maintaining harmony. The saturated emerald background was chosen to give the figure clarity and presence, while allowing the floral elements to feel vibrant and alive.
The illustration was created by hand in Procreate.
The cover was published as part of Psychologie Magazine’s May issue.
