Breaking doors open with executive producer Esteban Pava | #MemberSptlight

Published by

Esteban Pava is an executive producer with 9 years of experience in the Colombian Advertising film market. During this time, he’s produced everything from TV commercials and digital content, to branded content and production services.

This week, however, he’s going to be sitting down with us and answering a few questions about his career, his life and his hopes for the future of the industry.

How did you get into the industry?

I started working as a production runner just before I finished college.

Where are you based now, and who do you work for?

I am in Bogotá, Colombia. I am currently working for Media Monks Colombia.

If you weren’t in your current industry, what would you be doing?

I would probably be working in the gastronomy industry; I am a Baker and an empiric cook.

Can you explain your creative process? What makes it unique?

My creative process starts with understanding what the director wants and if it's aligned with the client's needs. Then I organise the production plan with my team and how we can solve the possible problems,we may face. Planning is key in production, and we must be prepared for the most unusual obstacle on the road.

How would you describe your style?

*

I am a relaxed producer, but I am very sharp in taking care of the team, the production, and the final results.

Which individuals do you gain inspiration from? Do you have any heroes in the industry?

I do not have an individual as an inspiration but a a production company called ElectricLime Films. Their work inspired me. If I had too pick a hero in the industry, however, it would be Carlos Camacho, Executive creative director at Wunderman Thompson Amsterdam.

What tips would you give to aspiring creatives looking for work?

Be prepared for bad news but never surrender.

What tips would you give to other professionals to get more clients?

Be clear, be honest, and show your work to the world.

What kind of tools/kit/software could you not do without?

*

Google Sheets, Google Drive, and MONDAY are the best ally for a producer.

What’s your secret to staying inspired and motivated?

I always look for new trends and other producers' work to stay inspired, and I always set my goals as high as possible.

What’s the work achievement you’re most proud of?

The work I am most proud of is Cleopatra’s Jeans.

What is the one thing that you would change about the industry?

I would change the common thinking that working under pressure is the only way of working. We are not doctors and no lives depend on us.

Any websites, books, or resources you would recommend?

I'm not an avid reader myself but fantasy books are really good for creativity. Books I love include Dracula by Bram Stoker and the Lord of the Rings. Websites: Behance, LBB, Shots.
