Mother Nature keeps us safe and healthy

Published by

UL, the 120-year old global independent safety science company, has joined forced with the Mother Nature Network (MNN) to launch SafeBee.com, a new “Digital destination for safety and healthy living.” The site, which will draw on a diverse group of contributors including Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists, thought leaders, and freelancers with exceptional credentials, aims to be a platform from which concerned users can find and share credible, science-based information about health, wellness, sustainability and safety.

Its mission is simply to inform consumers about the safe and healthy ways in which to approach everything from technology and travel to healthy eating and home maintenance, and aims to combat divisive media coverage that has led to thousands of product recalls, countless contradictory reports on food nutrition and safety, and various public health scares, resulting in public panic and confusion.

SafeBee's mission is simply to inform consumers about the safe and healthy ways to live

The idea behind SafeBee is to negate this confusion by giving users access to a free, credible, editorially independent source of science-based information about health, wellness, sustainability and safety. The site will be underwritten by UL, but will be edited by MNN, which is the world's most visited environmental and social responsibility online network, with sites such as its flagship MNN.com and Treehugger.com generating more than 10 million unique visits every month!

UL CEO Keith Williams, said they “Understand the safety challenges affecting consumers where they work, live and play.” He believes that “MNN understands content and how to create a strong online community,” and feels this partnership will help them to “Better reach consumers and create a dialogue about the safety issues that impact them each day.” His enthusiasm is shared by MNN CEO Joel Babbit, who is excited to merge MNN's “Experience with UL's expertise in safety science towards building this new health and safety resource for consumers.” He feels that “SafeBee is a key component” in extending "UL's leadership in safety-related issues on the digital front.”

SafeBee's ultimate goals is “To become the go-to place for thoughtful content”

Marianne Wait, executive editor of SafeBee, adds that their ultimate goal is “To become the go-to place for thoughtful content,” and she has been ecstatic about the great response from writers and journalists so far.” She said that everyone they have talked to about the platform thus far understood what they trying to do and, like them, “Saw the need for a timely, engaging, smart site about wellness and safety,” which has helped them to attract “Top talent and amazing contributors.”
