Ogilvy & Mather UK appoint Annette King as new CEO

Published by

Last week, it was announced that Annette King had been promoted to the role of CEO at Ogilvy & Mather UK, replacing Paul O'Donnell, who himself has also been moved up the ladder, with a promotion to CEO of Ogilvy & Mather EAME. Effective immediately, King will continue to lead OgilvyOne throughout the EAME region and will still work with O'Donnell, reporting to him directly. O'Donnell will also retain his role as Chairman at Ogilvy & Mather UK and both will be based in London.

Since joining the agency back in August 2000, King has enjoyed a rapid rise through the ranks at OgilvyOne, with a promotion to managing director in early 2008, which led to a further promotion to chief executive officer just 9 short months later. In May 2012, a substantial period of growth at OgilvyOne led to the agency being named Agency of the Year by Campaign magazine, and has been afforded the same honour for three consecutive years. Thanks in part to these achievements, King was promoted once again to CEO of OgilvyOne EAME, and was offered a position on the Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide Board.

Annette King and Paul O'Donnell

King and O'Donnell seem like a truly unbeatable team, with the group experiencing five years of consecutive growth under O'Donnell's leadership since his appointment to chairman of Ogilvy & Mather UK in 2009. He first joined the company in 1985, and has held numerous senior positions within the group throughout the past 29 years. He is credited with spearheading OgilvyOne's growth not just in the EAME region, but in the Asia Pacific and Latin American regions also.

King is “Incredibly excited to have the opportunity to run Ogilvy & Mather UK,” and “Can't wait to start working with the teams across the Group.”

O'Donnell, who is a member of the Ogilvy & Mather Executive committee, and sits on the worldwide board alongside King, believes it's a great time to be moving into a wider regional role, as “Europe shows early signs of a resurgence., and the network is growing in Africa and the Middle East” He also has nothing but praise for his replacement in the role of Ogilvy & Mather UK CEO, saying that he's promoted King “Five times in her 14 years at the agency,” because he says simply; “It works.” He believes her track record speaks for itself, and he's “Looking forward to her broader contribution” to the business in the UK." King herself is “Incredibly excited to have the opportunity to run Ogilvy & Mather UK,” and “Can't wait to start working with the teams across the Group to take the business forward, building on the enormous growth of the last five years."
