M&C Saatchi signed up by Sky Bet online gambling

It was announced yesterday that the Sport & Entertainment division of M&C Saatchi had been selected as the agency to deal with the title sponsorship of the English Football League by Sky Bet, the online gaming subsidiary of BskyB, the UK's largest pay-television broadcaster. The agency was selected following an incredibly competitive pitch process, and will be creating an integrated campaign from scratch, which will aim to demonstrate the company's commitment to refurbishing the game of football by putting money back into the game.

Rob Painter, the marketing director for Sky Betting and Gaming, believes that the “Coming together of Sky Bet and the Football League” gives them the perfect opportunity to “Engage with millions of football fans spanning all 72 communities.” He says that they feel the addition of M&C Saatchi will help them achieve this goal in “A truly compelling way,” and he looks forward to working side-by-side with them.

Steve Martin, the chief executive officer at M&C Saatchi's Sport & Entertainment division, adds that he feels the Sky bet brand is “Really going places,” and that it's a hugely exciting moment for the agency to be appointed following what he called a “Rigorous pitch process.” He says they are looking forward to “Implementing an integrated plan, focused around big, simple ideas,” which the agency believes will result in a significant step up for the brand. He also hopes that this step change will “Become the foundation of a long-lasting partnership.”

The Football League is a competition featuring professional men's association clubs from both England and Wales, and is the oldest competition in football, having been founded in 1888. For over a hundred years it remained the top-tier football league in the UK, until 1992 when the top 22 clubs formed the Premier League. Sky Bet signed a 5 year sponsorship deal with the league in July last year., ahead of the recently finished 2013-2014 season. Speaking at the time, Richard Flint, the managing director of Sky Bet, said that “Sponsorship of The Football League” allowed Sky Bet to demonstrate their “Commitment to all The Football League clubs and fans nationwide.”
