The Horseshoe Casino opens in Baltimore, bringing 'Las Vegas-style' gaming to the city

Published by

Last night the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore opened its doors to the public for the very first time, bringing a touch of Las Vegas glamour to “Charm City.” The ambitious entertainment complex promises to compare with the very best that Vegas has to offer, with unique amenities underlined by a local influence that is undeniably Baltimore. The casino is a joint venture between Caesars Acquisition and Caesars Entertainment, and has been designed to expand the city's tourism district beyond the Inner Harbour and the city's gargantuan sports venues. The development has been fully integrated with the surrounding area in order to optimise connectivity between the casino and existing attractions. The site of the imposing new complex was selected to not only expand the city's entertainment offerings, thus increasing tourism, but also to create new jobs and help foster economic growth in the area. Caesars Entertainment is privy to vast reserves of experience in gaming, entertainment and urban renewal, in fact, this project marks the fourth venture between the partners following the openings of Horseshoe Casinos in Cleveland and Cincinnati.

Gary Loveman, chairman, president and CEO of Caesars, says the casino is also well-positioned to not only serve the approximately one million members” of the brand's “Total Rewards” loyalty program who live in the area, but to “Introduce the Horseshoe brand to new guests.” He says that Caesars are “Proud to open a gaming-entertainment resort that embodies the city-integrated concept, which complements features of the surrounding area and other local businesses and attractions to create an experience that is unique to this location." He believes it will “Serve as the region's premier gaming destination and a catalyst for economic development,” and is confident that guests “Will respond just as enthusiastically.”

The casino is expected to draw visitors from across Maryland, adding fuel to Baltimore's thriving tourism industry. The development has already had a positive effect on the local economy, with 2,000 construction jobs and 1,700 permanent positions created as a result, more than 50% of those from the greater Baltimore area. The Casino offers over 2,500 slot machines, 100 table games, a “World Series of Poker” room and various extravagant nightlife options such as 14forty, a 24 hour multi-level entertainment venue, and signature restaurants from celebrity chefs Guy Fieri, Aaron Sanchez and John Besh. Mitch Garber, CEO of Caesars Acquisition Company said that "Horseshoe Casino Baltimore is a multi-level, multi-sensory entertainment experience is unlike any other casino experience found in the region and is exactly the type of growth asset Caesars Growth Partners was formed to pursue."

The star-studded grand opening event included a guest list stacked full of Baltimore's most influential citizens and will now be open to guests for 24 hours a day. Just like Vegas! Chad Barnhill, SVP and general manager of the Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, says that "After more than two years of planning, collaboration and construction,” they are thrilled to host the grand opening, and is humbled by how welcoming the community has been to the development. He says they are “Eager to return the favour, “ and can't wait to share their new “World class casino with the community.”
